UTI testing can be accomplished by a variety of techniques including dipsticks, cultures, and molecular testing. Currently, dipsticks and microbiology cultures are the predominant methods that doctors’ offices use to diagnose UTIs. In most health care settings, molecular testing is used when the more common methods have failed to detect any organisms and UTI symptoms persist or worsen.
Earlier detection of the organism causing an UTI has the potential to improve the speed of recovery from a UTI. LUX Diagnostics uses the most advanced molecular techniques to detect UTI-causing organisms by looking for their genetic material instead of growing them in a culture, which may take up to a week and/or fail to detect small amounts of organisms.
LUX Diagnostics’ technology improves turn-around time for the delivery of results and increases sensitivity for organisms that do not grow well in culture conditions. This ensures that an UTI is not missed and effective treatment can be chosen.
Detectable UTI Organisms
LUX Diagnostics conducts UTI testing using Novaplex panels 1, 2, and 3. Each Panel is designed to detect a different set of organisms known to cause UTI. Panel 1 covers the organisms that cause up to 95% of uncomplicated UTIs and together with Panels 2 and 3, essentially cover 100% of all organisms that cause UTIs.
Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella (Enterobacter) aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Enterobacter cloacae complex, and Serratia marcescens.
Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Actinobaculum schaalii, Candida albicans, and other Candida (glabrata, tropicalis, parapsilosis, krusei).
Acinetobacter baumannii, Citrobacter feundii, Citrobacter koseri, Morganella morganii, Providencia stuartii, Streptococcus angiosus, Aerococcus urinae, Corynebacterium urealyticum, and Pantoea agglomerans.
What is the UTI Testing results turnaround time?
Our lab provides results for UTI testing within two days after we receive your sample. The quality of the results is our highest priority. LUX Diagnostics has developed a process to help optimize the speed and accuracy of identifying the organism and help to accelerate treatment for UTIs.
